Raynaud's phenomenon in workers with vibratory tools.

چکیده

The relationship between the prolonged use of pneumatic powered tools and the development of Raynaud's phenomenon was first described by Loriga (1911), and subsequently by Hunter, McLaughlin, and Perry (1945), and by Lindqvist and Flemberg (1945). This association with high frequency vibratory tools was later extended to other industrial processes. Telford, McCann, and MacCormack (1945) and Agate (1949) described "outbreaks" in workers using flex-driven (Morrisdrive) rotary polishing tools, Middleton (1931) in workers on " pounding" machines in the boot and shoe industry, Gurdjian and Walker (1945) in those using light riveting hammers in aircraft construction, and Agate, Druett, and Tombleson (1946) in " hand-grinders " holding iron castings against revolving grinding wheels. Details of industrial techniques and the frequency and wave form of transmitted vibrations have been excellently reviewed by Agate and Druett (1947). The object of the present investigation was to determine whether sufferers from vibratory tool Raynaud's phenomenon can be distinguished by any objective criteria from normal subjects or from those who develop this condition from some other cause (Jepson, 1951). Its natural history was considered particularly in relation to the occurrence of nutritional or organic arterial lesions in the digits. An attempt was also made to evaluate the amount of disability which it causes, not only at work but also in leisure hours.

Human response to vibration stress in Japanese workers: lessons from our 35-year studies A narrative review

The occupational uses with vibratory tools or vehicles provoked health disorders of users. We reviewed narratively our articles of 35 yr studies and their related literatures, and considered the pathophysiology of the hand-arm vibration disorders. Concerning the risk factors of health impairments in workers with vibratory tools, there are two conflicting schools of the researchers: The peripher...

Risk factors for Raynaud's phenomenon among workers in poultry slaughterhouses and canning factories.

BACKGROUND Apart from the use of vibrating tools, little is known about risk factors for Raynaud's phenomenon. However, it has been hypothesized that this disorder may have a multifactorial aetiology, involving potential causal or triggering factors which can be found in the workplace. The objective of the study is to identify individual and occupational risk factors of Raynaud's phenomenon in ...

The validity of Raynaud's phenomenon symptoms in HAVS cases.

BACKGROUND Raynaud's phenomenon, a common manifestation of the hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), is typically diagnosed by a subjective history provided by employees. AIM This study evaluates the validity of the subjective history of Raynaud's phenomenon provided by individuals applying for compensation for HAVS. METHODS Thirty-six workers with a history of occupational hand-arm vibration...

Simultaneous observation of zero-value of FSBP% and Raynaud's phenomenon during cold provocation in vibration syndrome.

Many workers using vibratory tools suffer from handarm vibration syndrome. Among symptoms of the syndrome, blanching attack is the most typical. In terms of medico-legal aspects, objective recognition of Raynaud’s phenomenon is considered to be most important in judging the syndrome as an occupational disease. Measurement of finger systolic blood pressure test (FSBP%) in the laboratory has rece...
